Using a denim vest as a base, we stitched on them by hand different kinds of textiles. The Japanese art of mending fabrics making a more beautiful and strong garment is a very ancient method pre-industrial Japan when the fabric was scarce and clothes were mended with patches or scraps with visible simple stitches called Sashiko.
"Sashiko ( literally "little stabs" or "little pierce") is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching or functional embroidery, from Japan. Traditionally used to reinforce points of wear or to repair worn places or tears with patches, making the piece ultimately stronger and warmer, this running stitch technique is often used for purely decorative purposes. The white cotton thread on the traditional indigo blue cloth (said to recall snow falling around old farmhouses) gives sashiko its distinctive appearance, though decorative items sometimes use red thread.
"Boro is a class of Japanse textiles that have been mended or patched together. The term is derived from Japanese boroboro, meaning something tattered or repaired. Boro textiles could be stitched or re-woven together, with many layers often added for warmth."
"Shibori is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces patterns on fabric. There is an infinite number of ways one can bind, stitch, fold, twist, or compress cloth for shibori, and each way results in very different patterns. Each method is used to achieve a certain result, but each method is also used to work in harmony with the type of cloth used".
This denim vest is the perfect touch for any wardrobe and style. Fabric color could eventually fade after multiple washes. Handmade in the USA. Color may vary depending on the monitor used.
Small imperfections that happen when a product is handmade makes it more valuable. Shibori and sashiko are a labor-intensive process requiring acute attention to detail and patience.
Each garment has a specific design stitched with a needle and thread by hand. This stitching process can take many days, up to one week to complete, and is the most labor-intensive part of the process.
